This earwarmer pattern is a quick and easy crochet pattern that doesn’t take much yarn! It’s basically guaranteed to make your winter days a little warmer and brighter. Using any thick and chunky yarn, you can make a custom earwarmer with some great texture.

Supplies
- 1 skein Lion Brand “Wool-Ease” Thick & Quick Yarn (size 6)
- Size P (11.5 mm) Crochet Hook
- Plastic needle (for weaving ends)
- Scissors
Notes
Abbreviations (US terms):
Ch – Chain
SC – Single Crochet
FPSC – Front Post Single Crochet
DC – Double crochet
Sl St – Slip stitch
St/sts – stitch/stitches
If you’d like your headband to be a larger or smaller size, simply increase or decrease your foundation stitch count by “2”s.
Gauge is not essential here, but slightly looser will give a more relaxed fit, whereas tighter will give you a smaller fit. Make sure to give it plenty of stretch for comfort.
This pattern is so easy to adjust, and I’ve included the pattern for a skinny version and a wider version. I personally sometimes prefer an earwarmer that doesn’t feel like it is swallowing my head, but sometimes I want a nice wide one to really envelope my ears, so I created both!
Pattern
The foundation of the pattern is worked in a row that is joined, and the remainder is worked in joined rounds.
Skinny Version:
Row 1: Start with a slip knot and then use a foundation double crochet to create 32 stitches. Join short ends together to form a circle.
To Join: Use whatever foundational stitch joining method you prefer or follow how I joined it here: Being careful not to twist, join ends together with slip stitches. You’ll have to draw up the loops on the hook like you are creating the “chain” portion of an additional foundation stitch then insert the hook into the very first chain you created, yarn over, and draw through the stitch and the first 2 loops on the hook, then insert the hook into the next chain you initially created, yarn over, and pull through the first 2 loops, then repeat with the final loop.
Round 2 (the remainder will be worked in rounds): Ch 1, Front post single crochet into each stitch around. Join with Sl St into first “v” of FPSC and then Sl St behind to prevent from working into the FPSC. 32sts.
Round 3: Ch 2, DC into the top of the original DC row, behind the FPSC. 32 sts.
Tie off. Weave in ends, fluff, and you’re done!
Wide Version:
Row 1: Start with a slip knot and then use a foundation double crochet to create 32 stitches. Join short ends together to form a circle.
Round 2: Ch 2. DC in each stitch around. Join with Sl St. 32 sts.
Round 3 and 4: Repeat Rounds 2 and 3 from above. (FPSC and DC rounds)
Round 5: Ch 1. SC in each stitch around. Join with Sl St. 32 sts.
Tie off. Weave in ends, fluff, and you’re done!
