I am so excited to be sharing this pattern today! This cowl is basically my favorite winter accessory – squishy, warm, and easy to throw on with any outfit. It is a quick make – you should be able to easily knock it out in a couple of hours – and it only uses one skein (that’s right! 1 single skein) of Lion Brand Yarn “Wool-Ease Thick & Quick” yarn.

This pattern is also nice because you can adjust it to be whatever length you’d prefer. If you like your cowl to sit closer to your face and neck, or if you’d like to convert it to a longer “infinity scarf” simply increase or decrease your foundation stitch count by “2”s.
Gauge is not essential here, but slightly looser will increase drape, whereas tighter will give you a stiffer cowl. If you work too loosely you may use/need more yarn, so just be aware of that.

Supplies needed:
- 1 skein Lion Brand “Wool-Ease” Thick & Quick Yarn (maybe more if you want to make the cowl longer or you crochet more loosely)
- Size P (11.5 mm) Crochet Hook
- Plastic needle (for weaving ends)
- Scissors

Pattern Instructions:
The foundation of the pattern is worked in a row that is joined, and the remainder is worked in joined rounds.
Row 1: Start with a slip knot and then use a foundation half-double crochet to create 50 stitches. Being careful not to twist, join short ends together to form a circle.
To Join: Use whatever foundational stitch joining method you prefer or follow how I joined it here: Being careful not to twist, join ends together with slip stitches. You’ll have to draw up the loops on the hook like you are creating the “chain” portion of an additional foundation HDC then insert the hook into the very first chain you created, yarn over, and draw through the stitch and the first 2 loops on the hook, then insert the hook into the next chain you initially created, yarn over, and pull through the first 2 loops, then repeat with the final loop.
Round 2 (the remainder will be worked in rounds): Ch 3, DC into each stitch. Join with Sl St into top of Ch 3. 50 stitches
Round 3: Ch 4. Skip 1st stitch, DC into next 2 stitches. *Ch 1, skip 1 st, DC into next 2 stitches* Repeat * to * until end of round, DC into last stitch, join with Sl St to top of Ch 3. 50 sts
Rounds 4 and 5: Ch 4. DC into first Ch-1 space, DC into next stitch. *Ch 1, skip 1 st, DC into CH-1 space, DC into next stitch* Repeat * to * until end of round. Ch 1, join with Sl St to top of chain 4. 50 sts
Round 6: Ch 3. DC into each stitch/ch-1 space around. 50 sts
Round 7: Ch 2. HDC into first 6 sts. Hdc2tog. *HDC into next 6 sts. Hdc2Tog*. Repeat to end of round. Join with Sl St. 45 sts.
Tie off. Weave in ends, fluff, and you’re done!
